My husband and I are knee deep in house hunting, which means I’ve acquired a new obsession for curb appeal and functional floor plans. Seriously, I’ll spend an evening repinning open concept kitchens. Or a couple hours flagging pages in my Domino archives. Or an early Saturday morning glued to my couch for an HGTV marathon.

Yes, I have issues.

I pass by Dallas’ new Perot Museum everyday on my way to work. It’s hard to ignore, so Ash and I finally toured it last weekend. And while it’s definitely geared towards kiddos and kids at heart {we fit right in}, we did learn a few things. Newsflash circa 2006: Pluto is no longer classified as a planet. {Where have I been?} I also learned that I must start a rock collection immediately! {The Lyda Hill Gems and Minerals Hall is a must see}.

We’re changing things up a little on our Here / There / Everywhere weekend wrap-ups! Each Friday we will share a local happening from one of four By & By cities. This week, we’ll start with Dallas!

Our favorite spectacles are coming to Dallas this weekend – the Warby Parker Class Trip has been bussing around the country and is arriving today on Henderson Avenue. Their mobile store opens at 11am daily, and they will be camping out around the city until January 27th. Stop by and have their full collection of eyewear at your disposal, complete with stylists, food, comfy seats and good reads onboard. Plus, on Saturday they are hosting a kick-off party at The Old Bike Shop with House of Plates. Enjoy a drink, some live music, a good shoe shine and bites from Bolsa.

Austin / Head to Soleil for the second Annual Merry Movie Night Under the Stars – part of this year’s Austin Shop Crawl {promoting shopping local this holiday season}. They’ll be playing holiday favorites “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “A Christmas Story.” So bring your blanket {and a toy for Toys for Tots} and treats will be provided – including beer!

Dallas / Plan for Jingle Bells on Bishop in the Bishop Arts District. It’s like a festive neighborhood block party, complete with music, Santa and independent boutiques and local eateries open late. {Friday and Saturday, 6-10pm}

Kansas City / Get some Christmas cheer with the ghost of Christmas present in A Christmas Carol at the Kansas City Repertory Theater.

New York City / Stroll through the Holiday Window Walking Tour and consider taking a pit stop at Rockefeller Center for the tree and ice skating.

Everywhere / Target + Neiman Marcus Holiday finally arrives this weekend nationwide. Wee!

Austin / Formula 1 arrives in the US this weekend – and more specifically, Austin, TX! For those not attending the race, be sure to get in on this weekend’s other big ticket event, Austin Fan Fest {including tons of free shows!!}.

Dallas / This Saturday evening, head out for Dallas’ Annual Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting Event and get into the holiday spirit!

Kansas City / The 2012 Holiday Light Recycling Drive is going on now until Jan 13. Recycling your old holiday lights keeps them out of landfills, while providing job opportunities for 160 employees with developmental disabilities. Drop-off your old lights at your local WalMart Supercenter or visit KCRecycleLights for additional locations; 8am-10pm daily.

NYC / Happy Cranksgiving, bike enthusiasts! This Saturday participate in a pedal-powered Thanksgiving food drive benefitting St. Mary’s Church.

Austin / Head to the Highball this Saturday for their Monster Mash costume contest and party. There’s a $100 prize for the best costume, so dress to impress!

Dallas / From now until Halloween, The Old Monk will be hosting their annual pumpkin carving contest. For just $10 you’ll receive the pumpkin, a carving kit, and a free pint of Guinness, Smithwicks, or Black & Tan. And for every pumpkin sold, The Old Monk will match the $10, and all proceeds will be donated to The North Texas Food Bank.

Kansas City / WaterFIre Kansas City is taking place on the Country Club Plaza Saturday, October 27. This annual public art installation should not be missed. Free to the public – photography enthusiasts bring your cameras!

NYC / You know what’s scary? Hurricanes. You know what’s scarier? “Frankenstorm” {also known as Hurricane Sandy}. The predicted hurricane-meets-winterstorm is predicted to hit this weekend during… a full moon. Eek! Time to stock up on bottled water and candy corn. Stay safe, everybody!

Everywhere / This weekend try your hand at recreating Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spice Latte. Seriously, this recipe looks so good. Yum!

I am loving West Elm Market Brooklyn! The modern general store premiered yesterday online, and the first brick and mortar opens in Brooklyn tomorrow. It features many local-to-Brooklyn goods for the kitchen, the garden, personal care and home care & repair. Read more about specific products and how they support local organizations here. Looks like there are plans for eight more West Elm Market shops to follow, including one in Dallas! I hope each store will be as nicely curated as the one in Brooklyn!

Kansas City / Fort Leavenworth is nearly 185 years old and well known for being haunted. Annual guided walking tours of its most haunted places take place this weekend.

NYC/ Head to the East Village for the annual Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade. The getups are remarkably elaborate and conceptual, and owners stand to win prizes for Best in Show!

Austin / Banger’s Sausage House and Beer Garden is celebrating Octoberfest now through October 7 with oompah DJs, polka bands, and contests from yodeling to pretzel eating. Prost!

Dallas / The State Fair of Texas starts today and runs through October 21. Take photos with Big Tex, enjoy some fried goodness, and ride the ferris wheel.

Kansas City / Head out to Cider Fest at Louisburg Cider Mill this weekend through October 7. See how the cider is made with live music, fall produce sale, corn maze, pumpkin patch and cider donuts and of course fresh apple cider for sale. Midwest fall fun!
