we heart / blogshop

This past weekend I had the incredible pleasure of interning for Blogshop Austin. Hosted by the lovely and immensely talented Bri Emery and Angela Kohler, the two day Photoshop class is specially designed to give bloggers the tools they need to rule the interwebs in style. Already versed in Photoshop myself, I’d been looking for an excuse to sign up for the class when I saw they needed interns. I applied twice for good measure.

modern thanksgiving / dwell studio

Whether for work or just for fun, I love any excuse to create a mood board. There’s something so gratifying about finding images and elements that perfectly complement one another to tell a story. So when I saw that Dwell Studio was hosting their 4th Annual Modern Thanksgiving Contest via my beloved Pinterest, I immediately got to work designing my ideal Thanksgiving scenario.

In reality, this Thanksgiving will be a pretty quite affair at my parent’s house {especially since my sister won’t be able to join us due to her move to Albuquerque, NM the following week}. So as I started creating my Modern Thanksgiving board, I imagined our family road-tripping to meet somewhere between here {Austin} and there. Which resulted in an exciting discovery – Marfa, TX is almost exactly the same driving distance between the two! I’ve been dying to go to Marfa since Madison first posted about it {and then again} and couldn’t picture a more fun way to spend Thanksgiving than relaxing, drinking, and playing cards with my family… in a teepee!

Inspired by / 01. black & white / 02. retro charm / 03. coral colors & geometric shapes / 04. fall foliage & feminine details / 05. rustic tables & dining al fresco / 06. metallic accents & natural elements / 07. & 08. eclectic simplicity.

we heart / west elm market

I am loving West Elm Market Brooklyn! The modern general store premiered yesterday online, and the first brick and mortar opens in Brooklyn tomorrow. It features many local-to-Brooklyn goods for the kitchen, the garden, personal care and home care & repair. Read more about specific products and how they support local organizations here. Looks like there are plans for eight more West Elm Market shops to follow, including one in Dallas! I hope each store will be as nicely curated as the one in Brooklyn!

My favorite pieces:

  1. Krups Coffee Maker
  2. Heirloom Scissors
  3. Lodge Cast Iron Hibachi Grill
  4. Hanging Bag Planter
  5. Heritage Leather Reinforced Mason Bag

we heart / target + neiman marcus holiday

Yesterday Target revealed the lookbook of their upcoming holiday collaboration with Neiman Marcus featuring BIG name designers including Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, and Marchesa to name a few. Unsurprisingly, the collection is pretty freaking fabulous. And though I quickly started formulating a personal wishlist {I especially love this sparkly blouse by Tracy Reese and Oscar de la Renta’s lacy ceramic pet bowl} I also adore rag & bone’s guy friendly gifts and Jason Wu’s girls’ dresses. Of course, what’s not to love about high-end designer swag that we mere mortals can actually afford to indulge in? Yet another reason I love Target!

Sadly the 50-plus-piece collection doesn’t go on sale until December 1st {mark your calendars!} but you can check out the rest of the Lookbook here in the meantime. Who else is excited for the holidays?!

1. Tracy Reese Blouse / 2. Derek Lam Slippers / 3. rag & bone Flask / 4. Tracy Reese Dessert Plates {set of 4} / 5. Oscar de la Renta Pet Bowl / 6. Rodarte Wrapping Paper / 7. Brian Atwood Leather Gloves / 8. Marc Jacobs Pouch

paris versus new york {animated}

Paris vs New York from TonyMiotto on Vimeo.

I love art director/graphic designer Vahram Muratyan’s graphic blog Paris Versus New York {not to mention his prints and book by the same name} and thought this animated look at his illustrations was too fun not to share.

Of course, now it’s pretty much guaranteed that I’ll spend the rest of my workday daydreaming about lattes, art museums, and *real* fall weather. Le sigh.

Which city would you pick?

we heart / designspiration

I’ve mentioned before my deep, undying love for Pinterest, but there’s another website that holds an equally special spot in my design-nerd heart.

Designspiration, at least in my opinion, is quite possibly the best thing to happen to online visual resources to date. It’s kind of like if Ffffound and my beloved Pinterest {minus all the food, wedding, and workout posts} had a baby. The site is clean, easy to navigate, updated constantly with awesome visuals, and – drumroll – features a thoroughly helpful search engine. Looking for logos? All things neon? Retail signage? Done, done, and done. So easy.

Whenever I start a new design project, it’s the first site I head to for kickstarting concepts. And since I happen to be in the brainstorming phase of a new project at work, I thought I’d share some of my favorite inspiration I’ve pulled so far. I’m kind of loving the mix of images together. What do you think…?

funky flowers

Lord Cry Cry – Blind Lightnin’ Floor from Francis on Vimeo.

Just wanted to share… I’m always inspired to see creative problem solving and thought this idea for a low budget music video was pretty genius {not to mention extremely well executed}.

Less importantly, I was also curious to see if it reminded anyone else of the dancing flowers from the ’80s…

Am I right, or am I right?

sharp specs & summer still lifes / warby parker

I’ve been looking for a new pair of eyeglasses for a while now, but after a recent bout of severe clumsiness {I opened a car door… into my face} I’m now in the market for a pair of prescription sunglasses as well. Fortunately, Warby Parker recently added sunglasses to their affordable and super stylish selections.

Though I’m always a fan of classic tortoiseshell, right now I’m leaning towards a few of the more colorful Summer Crystals frames instead {especially TRILLINY in Bellini}. Of course, it probably doesn’t hurt that the photography for the limited edition line is so cool – I might be even more in love with the color coded, neatly organized product styling than the glasses themselves. In fact, thanks to these photos, not only do I want a pair of glasses, but I also suddenly feel compelled to buy a variety of small plastic toys, as well. Perhaps it’s a joint marketing scheme…?

Either way, well played, Warby Parker. Well played.

we heart / kelsey foster + posh floral

We here at The By & By love everything that our friend and super talented photog Kelsey Foster does {check out our interview with Kelsey here}, but her latest collaboration with Posh Floral is just… too good. Totally feminine, ethereal, and sublime. Gah, love it. Needless to say, I couldn’t resist sharing…
