mad for / 1960s style

01. / 02. / 03.

Because of my longstanding obsession with Mad Men, it was only inevitable that I would find myself absolutely obsessed with fashion trends from the 60′s. After much ‘ooh-ing and aah-ing’ and no such luck being able to curate this style in my own closet, I’ve realized the issue: I have no clue how to find {or just shop for, in general} good vintage clothing. I’m pretty sure it’s a gift… or it’s just one of those things that people grow up around. Anyways, I’ll cut to the chase and just say I’m ill-equipped. Although, I HAVE found that I don’t necessarily have to wear real vintage to get this look. From the perfect winged eyeliner to the hot hot hotpants, I plan on living in a different era this summer so who wants to come with me?

wedding wear: the guests

Ahh…it’s officially wedding season. That time of the year when many of us have that “O-M-G WHAT should I wear to her wedding?!” freak out moment. OK – so perhaps there are some of you out there who have this down to an art, but I’ve had this moment too many times to count, so I’m here to try and set the record straight. So, for the sake of this post, I’m going to split up the outfits by “type” of wedding. I’m sure there are thousands of exceptions, but for now, I’ve come up with three:
1. Day-Time Casual 2. Night-Time Casual 3. Black Tie Formal.
And although the outfit combinations at your fingertips are endless, I’ve put together a few “mood boards” to help be your guide next time you’re in a wedding rut.

1. Day-Time Casual

mad for marfa

After a recent excursion to Marfa, TX {my home away from home}, I decided it was only inevitable that I do an outfit post to celebrate the too-good-to-be-true Spring weather, and share the magic that is West {West, West} Texas.

I blame this partly on being a born & raised Texan, but it’s really hard to top the joy I get when a cowboy boot can work with such a variety of outfits, and that’s just what I’m here to prove! These three outfits include several of my favorite Spring/Summer staples, and I simply added a West Texas-spin with a pair of brown vintage boots. Easy, simple, fun! Continue Reading →

for the love of leather

Loud and bold or soft and sweet, leather jackets {whether faux or authentic} are an outerwear staple for any wardrobe. Not to mention, they’re particularly perfect during the awkward transitional months when it’s 30 degrees one day and 70 the next {thank you, Texas!}. So, over the past month or so, I’ve been on a long, arduous hunt for *the one* and I’ve finally narrowed the search to a few favorites. Go ahead, lust away! Continue Reading →

On top of fashion, I’m secretly a celebrity junkie at heart. So naturally, I get really excited when the Golden Globes roll around so I can ogle over what’s happening on the red carpet {or not happening for some people}. Just for fun, here’s my red carpet roundup of the best and worst dressed at this year’s awards! Continue Reading →

style guide: the chambray top

How exciting is it to add a fresh in-style staple to your wardrobe? You’ve looked for months trying to find the perfect ‘whatever-it-may-be’, and you’ve finally found it. It fits perfectly. It’s in your budget. It’s fabulous. So, you buy it. Go you!

Then comes the moment of actually wearing the thing, right? Of course you want this “it” piece to look good, and that’s where the rest of the outfit comes in. This is where things can get sticky for some of us, which is why I’m here to introduce a new Mad for Fashion feature to inspire and put these outfit woes to rest! This is a style roundup of different ways to wear the popular Chambray top.

I’ve paired the first two looks with skirts for a more casual summer day look. Tuck the top in, throw your hair into a loose bun and you’re set! More after the jump! Continue Reading →

interview chic 101

look 1: business interview

So here’s the deal–you scored the interview! Congratulations! That’s the first big feat. Next comes the “OMG WHAT DO I WEAR?!” agony. Well, do not fear because after recent interviews of my own, I have decided to share with all of you “Madison’s Interview Outfit 101.” To keep it simple, my mantra on interview outfits is to maintain a level of class and sophistication while twisting in a part of your personality and everyday style. Interview outfits don’t have to be boring, but they should always maintain a level of appropriateness. Although there are thousands of different ways to approach this, I’ve put together a few different looks to give you a better idea. The first look: “Business Interview” // The second look: “Fashionista Interview” // The third look: “Feminine Casual Interview.” Continue Reading →

planet marfa

As previously mentioned in my last post, I decided to do a “What I Wore” post donning one of my new (and favorite) pieces of clothing – The Long Tail Skirt. (via Nastygal) It’s super comfy, fun and worthy of a twirl! What more could you ask for in a summer skirt?..especially in the 1000 degree weather! Luckily, it came just in time for what’s become an annual trip to Marfa, TX with my boyfriend. If you’ve never heard of Marfa, do yourself a favor and look it up. It is by far one of the weirdest and most eccentric towns I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Continue Reading →
